After being put on hold for the past few years, refined plans for a modern six-story temple to be built on the American Buddhist Cultural Society’s office and bookstore property at 1750 Van Ness Avenue could be approved next week.
In addition to a main shrine hall and meditation rooms, the proposed 43,000 square meter San Bao temple project, as designed and implemented by SOM, with bronzed aluminum walls, glazed terracotta, limestone and bamboo surfaces, includes a new bookstore, art gallery, tea house, classroom, terrace, Underground parking for 7 cars and 27 dormitories for monks and volunteers from all over the world.
However, the permits for the project still have to be applied for. We’ll keep you up to date and stay tuned.
